Were home!

We have made it home. We came home on Monday the 17th.

Chrstie and I are doing very well. We actually got some sleep last night!

Garry has had doctor appointments today and yesterday.
The jondice test came back just fine, and his hearing test was perfect.
The Pediatrician today, said he was doing great. His weight is now 7 pounds!

I have some more great pitures so I thought I would make a second gallery.

The Story... with a Happy ending!

Things have calmed down a little now, and I thought I would let you know how the delivery was, and what has been happening in the last 24 hours.

We went to the hospital at 11:30 PM ON THE 14TH. The contractions were about 2-3 min. apart and Christie was in a good bit of pain. Christie said if they sent her home this time she did not know how she was going to do it. Also mentioned at this point that if she still had not dilated, then we would certainly need that epidural.

Well, they did admit her this time. *Thank God* We were admitted at about 12:30. We were still only dilated to 3cm. At 1:00 am she received her epidural. By 1:30, there was no more pain. Amazing. She did not even know she was having contractions and they were stronger than ever and only 1 min. apart. At 2:00 am her water broke and she was still only 3-4 cm. dilated. Textbook says that you should only dilate about 1 cm. / hr., so we figured it would be at least 9:00 in the morning and then a few hours of pushing. Wrong. By 5AM she was 9-10 cm and at 6:00 we were starting to push.

2 1/2 hours of good pushing and he was born at 8:28am. I always said I was not going watch the birth. However, I caught a glance and I have to tell you it was the most amazing thing I have even seen. I look at Christie in a whole new light now. She is so strong and amazing.

As soon as they moved him to the warming table he turned from Purple to Pink. APGAR was a 9.9 out of 10. They deducted 1/10 of a point because his little hands and feet did not change color as quickly as they wanted. He was just fine though. He then proceeded to pee on the nurse. That's my Boy! They weighed him in and he pooped on the scale. (Nice touch!) Obviously, his plumbing was working pretty good!

The doctor and nurses were taking bets that he would be at least 8.6 pounds - the doctor was very surprised that he was only 6.10 but was was pretty long.

The breakdown is as follows:
Length - 20 and 1/2 inched
Head - 13 and 3/4 inches
Chest - 12 inches
Weight - 6 pounds and 10.4 ounces

In there is also the weight and length.

Mom and Dad are doing fine. Just exhausted. Baby was born at 8:28 Jan 15, 2005 and was 6 pounds 10.4 oz. (He suprised us with a smaller size!)

What a PRECIOUS BABY!

I will update more later.

It will happen when it happens!

The contractions have slowed a bit, but are beginning to get a little more intense. We had a quick trip to the hospital this morning because the doctor wanted to check that the baby was it the correct position. Last night, the labor nurse thought that the baby was possibly transverse. (Sideways)

The good news is that the baby IS in the RIGHT position! They did a sonogram to confirm that was the case. He is heads down. He is large, so what they were feeling side to side was his rear end and back.

The doctor thinks that the previous contractions were probably false labor. The contractions hurt pretty bad now, so if they get more intense like they say, Christie is in for quite a trip.

So instead of walking, today we are going to try to get some rest. Not much sleep was had last night and we would like to get a little more energy for when the real labor starts. (which will hopefully be soon!)

By the way - the Nurses at the Birthing Inn are just great. The one today even gave Christie a hug when she left. Visit the Birthing Inn with the link below.

THE BIRTHING INN

So please do not ask Christie or I when we are going to have this baby. We do not know. We wish we did. It will happen when it happens.

Now, back to sleep. (we hope)

Tired.

Christie starting having contractions 2 min. apart this evening. We went to the hospital and they monitored the baby, and checked her out.

She is still 3 cm dilated, so you know what they did... Sent us back home... AGAIN!

Christie has now been having contractions for 36 hours and is wore out. She is wore out physically and both of us are emotionally spent. Because this is our first baby we do not know what to expect and I am sure that has some to do with our frustration.

They gave Christie some Ambien (Sleeping Aid) to rest tonight. Before we even got home she was loopy. So she is in bed, and I am soon to follow.

They said hopefully when she woke up tomorrow she would be ready. The thought is that she may be too stressed and the relaxation of tonight should help out.

Probably a good thing anyway because the doctor we do not like was on call tonight. The doctor we like starts at 8 a.m.

I will update when I can with the latest.

We are spent.

T-3 & Holding...

Here is the progress.

After the hospital visit last night, the contractions seemed to slow a bit. This was even after they had reached their peak from walking the mall & other late night stores.

On the overnight, there were still contractions and a few woke her up in the night, but she was able to get some sleep.

This morning we went back to the doctor. The good news is that she is now 3 cm. dilated and 80% effaced. This means that at least the contractions were not for nothing. The doctor performed some procedures to help the contractions start again. She told us to go walking and some other tips to get things started going strong again. She said that we could go back to the hospital, but it would be pointless until we were having strong contractions that were two to three minutes apart. Right now, we are still holding at five minutes... and have been for well over twelve hours!

The doctor has scheduled for Christie to be induced on Wed. the 19th. The doctor was pretty sure that now that she was scheduled to be induced that she would go into labor before then.

So we're going to back to walking as the contractions have started again, and we still hold hope that we will have a baby tomorrow or the next day. If not - at least there is light at the end of the tunnel and we know that it will not be any longer than the 19th.

I will let you know when more happens!

COUNTDOWN

Christie has been having contractions all day.

When they hit about 5 min. apart we went to the hospital. They monitored her for an hour or so. The contractions were not heavy at the time and we still stand at 50-70% effaced, and 1 cm dilated.

They told us to go walk and come back when the contractions were 2-3 min apart and much more intense. We went to the mall and walked, trying to get things moving. We know that this is the real deal because when she walks the contractions do become more intense.

We both have the day off tomorrow and have an appointment at 10:30 in the morning. If things are not moving then, we will be walking some more.

We both hope that late tonight or tomorrow, she will be in the thick of it.

We were both very anxious today and a little disappointed that we were no farther along. I hope that if Christie is not going to go into full labor tonight that she does get some sleep. It has been hard for her lately and it will be harder tonight with the contractions.

When we are in the hospital and actually having the baby I will make the phone calls to the friends and Family that need it, and naturally will update this site for everyone else also and send out the e-mails.

Wish Us Luck!

And the Doctor said...

Christie is fine. The Doctor said that her blood pressure was just fine now. She is planning on going back to work tomorrow.

Things are progressing right along though. She is 70% effaced but still just 1 cm dilated. The Doctor massaged the cervix trying to get things started also. She gave us a couple of tips for us to try to help the process too.

The baby is in the right position (Head down) and just "hanging out".

I am just grateful that everything is OK. The blood pressure thing scared me a little. I was glad to go to the doctor with her today to be reassured that it is completely normal to have things like that happen. I like to hear that there is no reason for me to be concerned about Christie or Baby.

The doctor will check her out on Thursday just to double check the Blood Pressure, and again on Tuesday for her regular appointment. Sunday is the actual due date, so I hope she does not make it that far. I would like to have to run back to the hospital tonight...

Can you tell were anxious. (Not to mention a bit uncomfortable)

I guess we just have to wait it out. It will be better if she goes into labor on her own rather than being induced. So I will let you know when something happens!

OK, I spoke too fast yesterday!

While Christie was at work (around noon) her blood pressure went way up. So she took a little trip over to the hospital. Could this be it?

No.

By the time I got to the house, fed the cat, picked up the suitcases and made it to the hospital her blood pressure had lowered. They monitored the baby for another hour or so and everything was fine. Because of the blood pressure they put her on bed rest until today.

We have a doctors appointment this afternoon, and we will find out more then. Hopefully we will be talking about inducing, but who knows.

Christie is having trouble sleeping at night and just all around uncomfortable. Pair that together with being bored from laying in bed all day yesterday and you can see how frustrated she is.

Everyday I have more respect for her. I love her so much, and not only am I naturally concerned about the baby's health but I also am concerned about her. She is one tough cookie!

After the doctor appointment today I will write the results.

No new news...

I wish I had something to tell.

We have been walking, drinking lots of raspberry Leaf Tea, and trying to get over our colds.

Perhaps it is good that the baby is not here yet. We were both under the weather this weekend with sinus infections. I think we are well on our way to getting better now.

Naturally poor Christie is uncomfortable. She is a trooper though. Good thing us men do not have to have the babies.

SO - We are back to work. Fun Fun.

I still maintain that she can NOT be pregnate forever.

Well, there's good news and frustrating news...

Good news - Christie saw the doctors today. She is actually dilated 1 cm. So things are starting... Slowly.

The frustrating news - The doctor said the The Baby is 8 LBS already, and they would not consider inducing for another 3 WEEKS! OH GEEZE!

The Sonogram due date is Jan. 5, but the original due date from blood work is Jan. 16th. WELL - the doctors will only go by the original due date! The way I figure it, The Baby will be about 10 lbs by that time. I am sure Christie will just be thrilled if that's the case!!! (Naturally a Lough boy with a big ole' head)

What to do you ask? WALK. Good thing it is unseasonably warm! We are going to go for walks and I will get the treadmill out in case of rain. We live on the 3rd floor so perhaps we can walk up and down the steps... We are desperate!

It is funny that everyone talks about us not getting sleep when the baby gets here. Poor Christie is uncomfortable and does not sleep now! But we are hanging in there.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Welcome to 2005.

Well, as you can see there is no baby yet. It will be any day now.

It is time to reflect on the year past and plan on the year ahead.

I have a good feeling about this year. It will be interesting learning to be parents, but I can think of no greater reward. To have someone that will be completely dependent on you is a little scary - But I think we are up to the challenge. Even if some of my siblings think it's scary that their "Little Brother" is going to be a parent.

Last year was great too. All I can really say is "THANK YOU" to Christie. She has been such a trooper through the pregnancy and is a fantastic wife - honestly, my best friend.

Hopefully you will hear from me in the next day or so with BABY NEWS...
